UCLA team control foul

UCLA player gets stripped and fouls when trying to recover loose ball. No FT's awarded as ruling is team control. Crew got this right last night right? Team control is maintained in a loose ball situation until other team gains control, correct?

Scrapper1 Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:30pm

Team control continues until:
  • Other team gains control
  • Ball is released on a try
  • Ball becomes dead.

They got the play correct. Scrappy posted pertinent info.

Although some Texas_Aggie fans disagree... :)

...they made the correct call.

Did anyone see this? And if soo, I would like to hear what the veterans have to say about it. Thanks.

Can't tell much from a picture. Even if the call was missed (and I have no idea what was or wasn't called and whther it was missed or not), so what?

My Two Cents ...

The "Not A Foul" photo looks like a foul, unless there's something missing in the photo, like a travel, player control foul, three seconds, etc., before the photo. It may also be a multiple foul, which is seldom, if ever, called.

The "Foul" photo? I'd like to see if there was any body contact below the frame of the photo. Can't say without more information.

How many calls, and no calls, did the officials get right in this game? How many calls, or no calls, did they get wrong. How many mistakes were made by the players in the game? How many decisions were wrong by the coaches? I'll bet the ratio of correct calls to incorrect calls by the officials was a lot higher than the ratio of unforced mistakes by the players and coaches. Until you officiated a game of this magnitude, I wouldn't make a lot of comments on the officiating. What's that saying about "walking a mile in a man's shoes"?

JRutledge Sun Mar 23, 2008 11:12pm

I love it when people show a snap shot and think that proves something. For one we have no idea what took place a second before or a second after the photo. For all we know a foul might have been called on the play. For all we know there was contact with the ball first. We have no idea. And this is why stupid fans always try to bring a photo but do not want to discuss anything that took place before or after the play.

Peace

The "not a foul" pic is the last shot attempt by Texas A&M v. UCLA. On the initial live action play I thought "good block". When they showed the replay I said "oops, looked like a foul". But the 3 officials on the court don't have still photographs and replays to determine fouls. Plus, I didn't see the whole game so I don't know what similar plays may have been "not a foul" on the other end.

I saw the whole game including this play about 10 times. The first time I saw it live, I thought it was a good block. However, after seeing it back it was definitely a foul. The officials only get one chance and I think Shipp's play on the shooter was so quick it was difficult to tell live if it was clean. It does seem like UCLA has been getting the long end of the stick at the end of games this season.

Maybe the refs are just getting caught up in the emotion of it all. :(

Agreed. From the side angle view it was hard to tell because you don't have a good look at the play. From the replay shown from the opposite end of the court (camera underneath the opposite basket) it looked like a foul.

We all know that what you see on the court doesn't always match up with what the camera shows. That's our goal - to get the calls right and have the video reflect that, but it unfortunately isn't always what happens. We don't have the angle from each of the official's views, so it's impossible for us to say what we would have done in that situation.

However, the Aggies have no one one to blame but Kevin Love, who simply PWNED them in the final 4-5 minutes.
