Talking

In my town, I'm known by the following names (among others):

Skippy Weaselpants
Paddy O'Furniture
Bob Alou
Jubilation T. Cornpone
Mike Rophone

Whenever I attend local Chamber of Commerce networking events, I put a different name on my name tag. People know this and come up to me just to see what name I'm using that day. It's a real icebreaker and I make lots of contacts that way.

the best reply in all of the comments

on the newspapers page was.....

"Whats the problem? The ref missed an obvious travel and this cost Molalla a chance for the playoffs.

This article fails to mention if they covered the spread. (I actually took Estacada straight up so they payout was 3-1. Huge upset. I had the inside tip that Molalla's power forward had the flu.)

Inappropriate? Alert us. Post a comment"

Classic....

Sadly:

For those of us in Oregon that hoped this situation would go to court we had a terrible set back.

The young man officiating the game was himself ejected from a high school game on Friday night. He received two techincals for swearing at opponets.

This will, of course, be used against him as this works through the court system.

Phones were buzzing all over today with the media trying to find "expert" commentary on the situation.

Regards,

Hmmm,

"If this is true . . . "

Why would I post it if it wasn't true.

I was in the OSAA offices today and was standing next to the person taking the report of the ejection report from the Commissioner of the Portland Basketball Officials Association.

Regards,

They should have called me. When the bill was originally in committee, I represented NASO and testified down in Salem to help get it passed. In fact, I carry a copy of the state statute in my gym bag in case I ever have to invoke it at a game.

Mark, wouldn't you just leave before anything ever got near the point where you had to pull the statute out? I still have a really hard time understanding how things could escalate to that point.

It's in case I have to tell someone they have to leave and they refuse. I will then tell them that if they don't leave immediately, I will call the police and have them arrested for trespassing and use the copy of the statute to show them I can do that.

So far, I haven't really thrown that many people out and I've never had anyone refuse to leave.

Regards,
Tim,

This doesn't really have any bearing on the situation from Saturday. Bottom line is the coach was assessed two T's for unsportsmanlike conduct & DQ'd. When he either refused to leave the gym or returned after leaving, depending on which version you read, he committed criminal trespass under Oregon law. This is what he was arrested and cited for by CCSO after he was interviewed.

Unless Estacada's game Friday was against Molalla (and it wasn't, it was against North Marion), then there is no way you can possibly construe any link between the two events. Further, Estacada won the Friday game, so if there was a DQ it had no bearing on the outcome. If the Estacada player was DQ'd Friday, then he will suffer the proscribed penalty of missing the next game, which oddly enough was tonight against Molalla.

Nothing the HS kid may have allegedly done on Friday justifies the alleged actions of the MS coach:
1. Refusing to leave or returning to the gym after being DQ'd
2. Accosting an official after the game
3. Making intentional physical contact with an official
