Last night during the second half of their last regular season game, Eddie Barnett, a junior guard from Portland's Grant High School collapsed, and was pronounced dead at a local hospital a short time later.
Details are sketchy at this point - will share more as it becomes available. Please keep his family and schoolmates in your thoughts & prayers...... |

updated information
He apparently collapsed while on the bench in the 3rd quarter, after playing in the first half. Family members have disclosed to the media that he suffered from a heart condition, but did have a medical waiver to play basketball.
It's been a tough year for this school - they also lost two other students, one a varsity volleyball player, in an auto accident last labor day weekend. |

Truely a sad thing. One of the things I love most about calling the various sports I do is the kids. It is cool to call them as little leaguers, high school and then see them in collage. Called a kid the other day in a collage baseball game that I called the last 3 years in high school. He was happy to see a face he knew.
When a kid never gets the chance to go to that next level or to even finish his playing days as a senior in high school it is truely a tragedy, no matter the reason. Sports was a major thing that helped me to be the man I am today. My heart goes out to his family.
