Free Throw Violation?

Saw this last night.

Boy JV game. Player A1 is fouled. Team B is in bonus.
A1 goes to line for one-and-one.
Players line up.
A1 shoots first FT.
Trail blows lane violation (not sure which team)
Lead and he confer.
Turns out that players in the lane were lined up wrong.
Team A had the players lined up in the first spots.

Ball was awarded to Team B because Team A "violated first".

Did they get this right?

First, no they did not get this right.

If the official noted this after the ball was at the disposal of the thrower and before the try was successful, the proper procedure would be to blow play dead and call a simultaneous violation. B has violated by not occupying the first marked spaces, and A has violated by occupying them. The AP arrow would then be used to determine possession of the ball.

If the alignment was noticed prior to the ball being at the disposal of the thrower, the official should blow the whistle and re-align the players properly.

If the violation was noticed after the try was good the violation is disregarded.

In addition if the try is unsuccessful also ignored.
