You are correct. I'm sure that works wonders for your officiating career, your avocational career, and personal life, too. Good luck with those. :)

I'll find a way to work with anyone and make them better, if I can.

In my HS board we don't have that luxury. We can't scratch teams nor partners.

That's good we are family and we have to get along. ;)

I scratch both schools and partners--for differing reasons.

One school is blocked for not providing police at their games. Others are for personal reasons involving coaches.

Mark, that's hilarious! I guess if Saddam was on my crew, we'd have free Doritos in the locker room, or whatever junk food he was getting from the guards, right? I'd also let him throw the ball up if he wanted to.

I would love to "scratch" partners and coaches. Scratching partners was really frowned upon when I started out, and is not an option in college. There were also guys I didn't click with at all on or off the floor that I eventually gained at least some measure of appreciation for over time. The ones I don't, I just have to make the best of it. Almost everyone, probably even Saddam and Jurassic Referee, have some redeeming qualities and charms that I would focus on as positives and be successful as their partners on the floor. :D

You could make them better by simply not officiating with them.

That's if you really are an official. I have my doubts.

Never happen. I'd take a chance on Saddam and scratch you. I figger that even dead, he's gotta be better than you.

There's a school in my area that more and more experienced officials are refusing to schedule each year, I joined their ranks this season. It's my understanding the assignor has had to schedule quite a few rookie crews in there this year. I wonder if he even realizes his behavior is resulting in experienced officials staying away.

We have 15 schools that we officiate, so our choices are few and far between. I had one coach black ball me a few years ago, then he quit the next year and was replaced and I went back to that school without a problem. In fact, I have them on the schedule for tonight.

I tossed a coach last year and our next meeting was in the play offs. He refused to shake my hand in pregame. Since then, I have seen him about 4 times and each time he shakes my partners hands and turns away when I offer my hand.

I couldn't care any less than I do. It doesn't effect my officiating. I just think he is a small man with a big problem.

When I coached, I was tossed one and never thought about it after that, I even forgot who the official was who tossed me. I have since worked with him on the court. Not a big deal.

That's maturity for you. Every game is a new game with coaches and partners. Those who choose to ignore the powers of redemption end up losing far more often that winning.

If you forgot who he was, then how do you know that you have worked with him officiating?

Inquireing minds want to know.

I scratched a school just last night. Very unruly fans, little to no game management. A private school where the AD is the coaches Dad, game management consists of students and they pay really poor for a Varsity contest - $35 - oh and they still run a 2 man crew and then complain about every call.

Coach followed us the the changing room last night. Who am I going to report him to, his dad???

Oh and this is in IL and they are not a member of the IHSA (the governing body)
