I used to love watching that commercial on TV where the official was sitting there with no expression while his wife was screaming at him

I try to let you guys coast in your little "boys will be boys" mode, but this is just too much. If you married a harridan, that's your problem. Please don't act like this is a wife thing, or a woman thing. Please take your marriage issues to a counselor or divorce lawyer, and leave the rest of us out of it.

Come on. Laughing at a funny beer commercial is too much?

I don't think anybody mentioned "the rest of you". It's a funny image, nothing more.

Even without the references to the commercial, I find the attitude projected by calling an hour and a half of a silent wife "HEAVEN!!!" troublesome. Seriously, it's none of our business what relationship problems the penguin has with his wife, and he shouldn't be airing them here.

WIth regard to the advertising, I know we disagree about this, and I won't say another word after this one. Re-inforcing false and insulting stereotypes is never funny, imo, and does more damage than is worth whatever humor may be derived by some people.

I"m done.

Should we talk now about all the bumbling Dads on television? Since we're talking about negative stereotypes meant to get a laugh or two.

I don't know if we need to talk about it. I agree that I don't like those negative stereotypes. We don't let our kids watch many of those shows at all, when we have the choice. And they mostly don't want to watch them, anyway. It's just not funny very often to see someone acting like a dork.

FYI - yy relationship with my wife is great - which is why I can make that comment without fear, worry etc. I am not and was not airing "relationship problems" as you state. I am terribly sorry you feel so threatened by the comment. Perhaps the "stereotype" used in my post was insulting to you but I think it's pretty presumptuous of you to insinuate that this stereotype is false in all cases and causes "more damage than it is worth." This may be true for you - but hundreds of comedians have made careers disagreeing with you. Readers digest even says - Laughter is the Best Medicine! You may have your opinion - but please don't preach. I made a comment that was funny IMO - you didn't agree. You preached- I don't agree.

Totally agree with you Chartruse, very solid in my marriage and most people just enjoy the humor of the whole picture with hometown situation and wife is coach and daughter playing, puts added pressure on the husband reff! Like it or not, I do value what my wife says on and off the court, nothing meant by earlier posts, just a little comment to bring a laugh to make life go by, never cared much for overly anal people!

Thanks for coming on and reinforcing that you simply can't ignore something you should ignore.

Juulie you are not married to a woman, so you really cannot talk for what a husband would think.

I lived with my girlfriend for about 5 years and I can tell you silence was often heaven for me.

Peace

Its funny you say this, its actually my wife who says the reason our marriage has lasted 25 years is because of this fact. We just "never" talk to each other that way we can't argue..... j/k.
