FYI - yy relationship with my wife is great - which is why I can make that comment without fear, worry etc. I am not and was not airing "relationship problems" as you state. I am terribly sorry you feel so threatened by the comment. Perhaps the "stereotype" used in my post was insulting to you but I think it's pretty presumptuous of you to insinuate that this stereotype is false in all cases and causes "more damage than it is worth." This may be true for you - but hundreds of comedians have made careers disagreeing with you. Readers digest even says - Laughter is the Best Medicine! You may have your opinion - but please don't preach. I made a comment that was funny IMO - you didn't agree. You preached- I don't agree.

I don't know if we need to talk about it. I agree that I don't like those negative stereotypes. We don't let our kids watch many of those shows at all, when we have the choice. And they mostly don't want to watch them, anyway. It's just not funny very often to see someone acting like a dork.

Agreed. Our kids don't watch any of them, period. But I believe mine are younger than yours, IMS. (2 and 7) He!!, my wife previews all the Hannah Montana shows before letting our 7 year old daughter watch them.

We, on the other hand, watch a lot of stuff we won't let the kids watch. Personally, I find According to Jim to be hilarious in spite of the bumbling Dad stereotype; just as I did with Home Improvement. But I'd never let my daughter watch Jim (I might let her watch HI re-runs, though.)

Why is it that every comical portrayal that involves a "protected" class gets slammed with a stereotype label. Do we want every commercial to portray all participants as if they were Ozzie and Harriet (or the Cleavers). That video only protrated ONE person in that light and made no suggestion about other women....in fact it showed exactly one man and one women behaving the same....where's the comment about the "stereotype" of the coach???? Double standard?? As far as I know, they don't have a pattern of commercials (or even two) that puport that all women/wives are that way. In fact, they have commercials protraying people of all types (genders, races, ages, nationalities, etc.) in funny situations. Its called humor....but apparently its only OK if the target of the humor is a man.

Totally agree with you Chartruse, very solid in my marriage and most people just enjoy the humor of the whole picture with hometown situation and wife is coach and daughter playing, puts added pressure on the husband reff! Like it or not, I do value what my wife says on and off the court, nothing meant by earlier posts, just a little comment to bring a laugh to make life go by, never cared much for overly anal people!

Its funny you say this, its actually my wife who says the reason our marriage has lasted 25 years is because of this fact. We just "never" talk to each other that way we can't argue..... j/k.:D
