Whack the kid to let him know you weren't going to allow any of that type of behavior for the rest of the game. Best way to make him understand!

However, what happened before the foul? Did the offensive player get hit 2 or 3 times before the foul was called?

When it's obvious the strategy is to foul, get the first one, so things don't escalate.
