Motivation to do the right thing

I absolutely hate it when a coach actually DOES know the rules for a 3-second violation BUT has a quick count, and yells "3 seconds!" when I'm at about 2 and a half. Now if I blow the whistle, I look like I'm just responding to or favoring the coach.

I'm sorry, Coach. I was at 2 1/2, but your hollering distracted me and so I had to start over.

If BITS had credibility established with the coach, he could say that and the coach would laugh and leave him alone. If you are certain that humor will be accepted the right way, it's a great tool. Shows that you are human to coaches and players.

I've said, "I was counting and it was close. If you yell it out, it makes it look like you called it for me. I'll get it when it's there."
