Where was your partner? He shoulda given him his 2nd one for the last comment. Short that, I'd have given him his ticket to the locker room myself.

Coaches will give you exactly as much crap as you allow them to. The coach has one role to play during the game, and that his to coach his team. If this coach was truly barking on every whistle, it needed to be addressed within the first couple of minutes of the game. And if you're concerned that no single act by that coach "crossed the line" then have a look at the PPP philosophy some posters have shared this year. Or or dearly departed Chuck Elias' ABS philosophy.

But defintely don't wait until the 4th quarter to take care of business.

I have yet to adminster a T. But I have yet to be questioned by a coach either.

Ive had little comments.. like..

"wheres the count"

or

"he got hacked"

I just ignor it.. never has a coach ever confronted me.... yet LOL

I absolutely hate it when a coach actually DOES know the rules for a 3-second violation BUT has a quick count, and yells "3 seconds!" when I'm at about 2 and a half. Now if I blow the whistle, I look like I'm just responding to or favoring the coach.

I'm sorry, Coach. I was at 2 1/2, but your hollering distracted me and so I had to start over. ;)

No, but it's extremely tempting.

If BITS had credibility established with the coach, he could say that and the coach would laugh and leave him alone. If you are certain that humor will be accepted the right way, it's a great tool. Shows that you are human to coaches and players.

Tonight I'm working with the assigner in which has historically been a rivalry game. This is my second year here and second year doing this game - that pisses some people off. To me the primary importance is the home team's gym is literally about four minutes from my door.
Both coaches have a history of throwing pot shots at officials and both can lose control of their team. We shall see how this turns out.

Oh, my other partner is the former assigner. Good times.

Let us know how it goes, Tom.

I've said, "I was counting and it was close. If you yell it out, it makes it look like you called it for me. I'll get it when it's there."

The game I had went OK. I'm a perfectionist so no game is good enough for me. The home coach began to beg for stuff when his boys started to get beat in the fourth quarter. The game was back and forth until then. He has one player that he can't control - he took him out of the game and tried to pat him on the back/butt as he walked by, the player was pissed and avoided the coach. I gave the same player a T the last time I had them.
I hate it when the game is managed well, both teams are playing through some things and then the coach/team on the losing end begin to direct blame at the end of the game. What's more alarming is when your partners -the assigner and former assigner - are oblivious to it.
Finally, the kicker is the fact that there is a boys round robin tournament today at another high school. Yep, you guessed it, I have the same team tonight. I said something to the assigner about it after our game. I don't necessarily agree with having the same team two days in a row when they lost last night. Don't get me wrong, they will get the best of what I have to give, but I don't really know if they would want to see me so soon.
