Socks.

All members of Team A are wearing: one white sock with red dots and one red sock with white dots. Socks go to just below the knee. Are they legal?
Nothing in rulebook about socks. I made them remove them. Distracting and confusing and worn for adornment.

Are there restrictions on socks? Nothing clear in the rules or caseplays.
A1 wearing one long sock and one short sock?
A1 wearing different colored socks?
A1 is wearing 2 solid color socks same color as uniform top which extend above the knee?

The only possible reason to have any player remove their socks was if there was pornography on them.

You were wrong. There are no rules restrictions re: socks.

BktBallRef Tue Dec 04, 2007 10:48am

There's no rule basis for having them remove them. You said it yourself, there's "Nothing in rulebook about socks."

I am not aware of any rules regarding socks. Why are they distracting to you? Are u watching their legs?:D and dont tell me they were girls....

I don't believe socks are part of the uniform... but 3-5-1 is your friend if you were the referee & deemed the socks to be dangerous or confusing.

Thanks but it seems odd.

As the rulebook is written there are no restrictions but it seems though NFHS is moving towards removing uniform/equipment which is worn for adornment and call attention to the players. They addressed the compression sleave on the arm and sweatbands above the elbow. How are unusual socks any different? Or socks which would normally be worn for soccer, worn in a basketball game?

Because socks aren't part of the uniform or equipment...

They're different because they're not specifically mentioned. They aren't worn JUST for adornment. Everyone wears some sort of sock in their shoes. So the only question is what they look like. When that matters, it's addressed in the book. Otherwise (as in the case of socis) leave it alone.

Thank goodness for teen age girls who often seem to enjoy expressing their own individuality in their socks. It's just so cute;) !

ok i'll pretend that i am one of the board "enforcers" and tell you what you are sure to hear any moment now.

the differenece is that the compression sleeve and sweatband issues that you raise above are addressed in the rules. you have no basis to enforce anything based on what the nf is "moving towards". there is no provision for you to call this so you are wrong. once the nf makes socks an issue then you will be able to make this ruling, until then stick to the rulings that are issued.

how'd i do?:p
