Old Question

Stolen from Tim Roden, old post (the answers to the old post didn't seem right to me):

"Team A is down by one point. At the buzzer, A1 puts up a shot and it goes in. Center official counts the bucket and the trail waves it off. Then they bolt for the dressing room leaving the visual confines of the court..."

What happens or probably happened, and does it matter if it is NCAA or NF?

Well what happens is the scorekeeper will either see the
C or the T, and count or not count it accordingly and the
game is over (however the phone calls have just begun!).
If someone had been smart enough to keep one of the 3 on
the floor in NF or the R in NCAA then the R gets to decide.
Women's NCAA has a procedure requiring the officials to
meet before leaving which should prevent this from ever
happening.

Thanks Dan. That sounds right to me--the old posts were arguing about who should have the call (C or T), and never addressed the fact that it didn't matter because the scorer had the pen.

NCAA in general (both Men's and Women's ball) has a policy and it is basically the same. If there is a camera within a certain distance of the court, that camera can be used to dispute or confirm any situaton in the last seconds as it is related to a shot. So they must stay if there is a dispute or it is not clear and look at replay if it is availible.

Jeff that's not what I am talking about. In the NCAA
appendix are instructions for women's officials that require
them to meet at center court & not leave until the scorer
tells them it's OK. In the original post all 3 just
took off, which under NCAA women's guidelines should not
happen. Once you leave the floor you can't return to look
at the monitor.

Dan, my point to you had nothing to do with the original post for the most part. My post had everything to do with your post. This procedure is not exclusively to the Women' side. This procedure was adopted by the Women's with the same guidelines that the Men's side used last year. Men's Officials still have do the same thing.

Now if I am wrong, show me the direct evidence in the book. There could be some differences that I am not aware of. But Marcy Weston told us in the Official's Meeting in Chicago that this was adopted from the NCAA Men's side the year before.
