Exam question: Please help I'm stumped.

I can't seem to find the rule or case play to the following question?

While the ball is at the disposal of A1 and prior to A1 attempting his/her free throw, B1 in a marked lane space steps into the lane and back. Team A then takes a time-out. Following the time-out, A1 misses the free throw. Official sounds the whistle and awards A1 a substitute free throw.

I know it is a lane violation on B1 but since the shooter didn't shoot the ball and requested a time-out does the violation still carry after the time-out?

Yes, the violation does carry over following the time-out.

9.1.3 Sit C: A1 is preparing to attempt a free throw. Prior to A1's release of the ball, B1 fakes causing A2 to enter the lane prematurely. A1 then requests and is granted a time-out. RULING: Upon resuming play, A1 is entitled to a free throw and the official shall use the proper signal indicating a violation by B1 prior to the granting of the time-out. If the free throw is successful, the violation is ignored, if unsuccessful a substitute throw is awarded.
