F Throw marked lane space

This may have been discussed, but I don't believe the rule book states how far back a player may stand in the marked lane space. I have only seen one team that would place one player back about 4 ft from the marked lane space. I didn't think it was legal, but my co-official cautioned me about making the violation call. I can't seem to find anything in the rule book.

The only thing they did, was use this as a quick inbounds to this player on a made basket. I saw this several years ago, but never thought about it until this morning I was reading the NFHS Rules by Topic.
