Lane space clarification
I am seeing more players back off the lane line a couple feet to go around the inside players. I beieve rule 9 allows a 36 inch wide lane space but not sure how deep is supposed to be allowed, sometimes the players move only after the ball is in the air while they are technically still in their lane space.
Also how about players that put there arms into the adjacent lane space. I know we tell them to keep there arms off the other players or straight up but rule 9, Art. 9 talks about feet outside the boundary?? Comments/advice on either issue are welcome |

The space is 36 inches deep.
It's not a violation to have anything over the lane except the feet.

Rule 1-5-2 says the same thing that BktBallRef told you--the lane spaces extend 36 inches towards the sidelines.
JR told you when it is legal to leave that area. A player may put his arms into another player's lane space without violating, but he risks being called for a holding foul if the contact is deemed to be sufficient by the official. |
