Leaving the floor

Scenario 1:
A1 attempts a pass to A2 who is running toward the team A basket. A2 is unable to gain control and taps the ball inbounds to the floor. A2 is carried out of bounds by his/her momentum, returns inbounds and picks up the ball.

Scenario 2:
Same as 1 except A2 catches the pass in the air and throws it to the floor before going out of bounds.

I've got legal in both cases since going out of bounds was not intentional and is therefore not a 9-3-3 violation. Am I okay on this?

Legal - and may dribble
Legal - can not dribble
Correct, because the player did not leave the court voluntarily.

See case play 7.1.1 Sit b,c,d

In scenario #2, the player can legally dribble if he returns in-bounds and immediately dribbles the ball. Casebook play 7.1.1SitD(b).

I agree JR. I kept my post specific to his OP which states the player picks up the ball (per his Scenario 1) 7.1.1 Sit D(c).
