The official is "part of the floor." Sounds like you were in the frontcourt. In this situation, it sounds like the ball was still in the frontcourt and you could have just dropped the ball and let them have at it. At any rate, no violation had occurred. (I guess you could have given the offensive team the ball back for a throw-in, but I think I may have just dropped the ball and waited for the scrum!)

If the ball went off of you to out of bounds, then you would have had an OOB violation. If you were in the backcourt, it's only a violation if the offensive team is the first to contact the ball in the backcourt.
