naw, i wish they were that big, they are just people that book games, or have pull on booking games, and people who book the all day, 9-5 tourneys. i'm looking foreward to this game, i am getting a friend to camcorder my parnter and myself, so we can watch it and see what we need to work on, which for me, is quite a bit! i had a perochical (sp?) school 8th grade boys game last night, it was awsome! It was better than ANY jv guys game i have ever worked, it was very very good! thought i'd add that because i was so impressed by the teams, and the coach of team b was barking the whole game, and then afterward he tells us how good of a job we did, i still can't figure that one out... he took my business card, which brings up another topic, do any of you give your business cards to coaches/ad's after games that you thought went well, or is that not right?

some advice
In some parts of the country, sub varsity games
are solicited by officials. There definitely use your business card. Most places have assignors who do all the work. There probably best to just continue to work hard. Should a coach or AD ask you for a card, give him one, but don't be the aggressor. Regarding your observation by big names; #1 arrive early (polished shoes, clean shirt) #2 cooperate with your partner #3 demonstrate sharp signals #4 always work for the best angle #5 allow the game to flow, but call the obvious #6 be approachable, but don't take too much crap #7 look like you enjoy being there (be relaxed-smile) #8 maintain control of the game #9 be fair and consistent #10 exude confidence with voice and body language Good luck, you will only have one chance to make a first impression.

Thanks, that is great advice. in my area, officials do do most of the booking, our associations do squat for us. and i'll be wearing polished shoes (converse all star patent leather)! the thing i'm gonna wk on the most is ballwatching, i developed the habbit in summer league and have been trying to break it all season...

very good advice
You know I have to agree with you.
You've given this guy some good advice! You never know who is watching and you never know with whom you are talking. I wonder why some people don't take this same advice when dealing with new posters on this board. You just never know, do you?

You are correct but......

The only problem with that, there are not too many people that are using their real identity. So if an assignment chairman is on this board, he might not even be dealing with a person with the real identity.

If only you knew...
Yes, Many people assume psuedo-identities here.
Bottom Line: Judge the content, because perception is reality. Or is it? Right, DOUG!
