I've heard and read that you can give an unsporting T to a player who fakes being charged (real goes wild like a limb got cut off). Question is, if this situation occurs do you penalize the block and assess a T, or just the T?

Thanks in advance.

If he flops and fakes the charge, it can't be a block. It's either a fake, or a block but not both. Or you can no call it. My suggestion is that you either no call it or call it a block.

I'm rather new, but I have heard the same thing. And it seemed to be mentioned at the ref camp I went to this summer. I would only call it if it was an obvious fake that was really dramatic - a simple movement back as if they were hit would probably get a no-call from me. The only problem I can see is a large reaction from the coach, like "He didn't do nuttin!". Not that that affects our calls or anything!

Since you are new, take the advice of us old timers. Don't ever call a T in this situation. You'll only create additional problems for yourself. The rule is old and archaic. I would expect that sooner or later, it will be removed.

You can rate this right up there with fisting the ball and multiple fouls. Leave it alone.

A no call clears this up much better than a T. Swallow your whistle, and see how fast he forgets acting class.

Cool

Just tell him one of the following:

"Hey - the Oscars are over."

"Get up. You look like a girl down there."

or, my personal favorite

"Save the drama for your mama."

What do you tell the defender during a girls' game?

Girls don't do this. They're too busy yelling, "Ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, I broke a nail, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball, ball!

Mark you hit the nail on the head - the girls yell that where you live, too? Whenever we play a team that does that I fell like I should say, "yes, its a ball - the same one we've been using for the past 30 minutes!"

I coach girls and I've never figured that one out! Like to find the peson who teaches that fundamental.

Well, I don't know if Pat Summitt started it, but the Lady Vols do it on defense.

I've got a no-call on the flop, or just wave for the player to get up.

BTW, I do call a violation for striking the ball with the fist. As a violation its not that big of a deal. (A T is a big deal.) Normally no one has control anyway....

Why is a T a big deal? They happen sometimes, probably with a heckuva lot more frequency than punched balls(insert joke here).T's are just another call you have to make if you feel it fits the situation.I'm like Todd-I've never officially seen a punched ball.

I yell, "ball, ball, ball" when they forget to past the ball to a ref after the whistle is blown. Most times girls don't even hear me, so they don't pass the ball. Boys look at me sort of aghast or dumbfounded--and don't pass the ball.

I do a modified version of what rainmaker does. I usually just say "Ball, please". Seems to work for me.
