Unexpected email
I worked the boys 4A semi finals on Friday night. When I checked my emails this morning, I got an email from the losing team's AD telling me what a good job my partner and I had done in the game.
We thought we had done a good job, but the email was totally unexpected. You never know what to expect.

Our email addresses are available through the software the state uses to assign the games.
As for the Nigerians, I get those offers regularly...are they not for real??? I could use the $$$! ![]()

On Friday, I received an unexpected letter from some guy in Oregon. It included a money order for $3,000. He said he was getting ready to move here and lease an apartment, which he needed me to deliver $1,000 to the landlord, and send him back the change from the money order after I deposited it in my bank account. So I deposited it on Friday, took the landlord a check, and sent him a check for the rest.

Don't the ADs in your area mail checks to your home address? Don't they have your phone number to confirm dates?

In my state all games are scheduled through the referee associations. There are three for the entire state. It is divided up geographically. The ADs have no need to contact an individual referee about anything. Thus they don't need to have access to our phone numbers, email addresses, or physical addresses. All changes are made through the association assignors. The schools contact these people and they in turn contact the referees and pass along the needed information. As there is no reason to contact an individual referee prior to a contest, there certainly is no reason to do so following a game. Our board/president needs to serve as the liaison/buffer. BTW that is the policy of our current board/president, but the information is still available through the assigning software. I don't agree with that. PS All pay checks come from the association, not the individual schools. |

Arbiter And Spam
I have been online with an email address for about ten years now. I seldom had problems with spam in the past, maybe just two or three a month. Our local IAABO board started using the Arbitrer this past season for the first time. Since the season began in December, I'm getting at least five to ten spams a day, usually for things like erectile disfunction medication, mortgage refinancing, and most frequently, stock tips. I haven't changed my online habits regarding using the internet or emailing in any other way. This may just be a coincidence, or it may have something to do with the use of the Arbiter.
