UConn/Nova T
I don't officiate NCAA, but just wondering if this was right. UConn was shooting the front end of a 1 and 1 which was successful. Following the ball going in, Thabeet from UConn shoved somebody on Nova which was called a T. I thought that in NCAA, the T FTs were first then back to POI which would be the 2nd FT.
This is what the officials did: Shoot back end of 1 and 1 (which was good). Shoot the 2 T's at the other end. Then they went to a division line throwin. I would have thought that if the bonus FT should be shot then the T FTs, that the POI would be at the other endline. I don't have an NCAA book, so just wanted a clarification. If this was a HS game, wouldn't the way this crew handled it have been correct? As an aside, if you were watching it you would probably go nuts at how cluelss Rick Majerus was as to what was actually called. |

Since the T was for contact during a dead ball in an NCAA Mens game, this was an intentional technical foul. That penalty is 2 FTs plus the ball at the division line. It becomes just like an NFHS technical.
The officials did it right. EDIT: Because of the unfinished 1-and-1 situation this becomes a false double foul with the second part of it being an intentional technical foul. The NCAA rule on how to administer that is: 10-23-2 f. In the case of a false double foul or a false multiple foul, each foul shall carry its own penalty. When one of the fouls is a direct or indirect technical foul, the ball shall be put back in play at the point of interruption. 1. When one of the fouls is a single (men) intentional technical foul or a single flagrant technical foul, the penalties shall be administered in the order of occurrence and the ball shall be awarded to the offended team at the division line on either side of the playing court. Not to hijack the thread, but the point guard for Nova (Scotty Reynolds) came within a point or 2 of scoring the most points in a Big East game by a freshman. Scotty had 40 points and fouled out with less than a minute to go. He is from this area (northern VA), and I worked a couple of his games when he was a senior. Terrific player, and a really nice young man.
