We just do not get any respect.

I will tell you a little funny story (or sad depending on how you look at it).

I worked tonight with one of the officials that worked the ESPN Oak Hill Academy vs. Simon game on Thursday.

We were working a Chicago Catholic League game between two teams that were pretty good and also a very competitive game.

We were talking before the game and my other partner and I asked the official that worked the ESPN game how much they got paid? He said they were paid exactly $55. Guess what we were paid tonight? You guessed it, $60.

So we work a game with no TV, not even a big gym and we get paid more than someone that worked on a college floor, all the national exposure you can get and he makes less.

If anyone asks do we do this only for the money they must be crazy.

Peace

I don't do it for the money, but I still cash the check.

Had a friend that was calling varsity boys and ncaa/njcaa ball during the same season about 4-5 years ago. He calls a non-district game that is about 2 miles from his house (VB) on a Tuesday, then drives 4 hours to call a NJCAA game between the #1 and #3 schools in the country. About 2 weeks later he gets his checks . . .

HS (VB) game - $115 (for ONE game)
NJCAA game - $100 (for ONE game), not to mention the 4 hour drive.

Who said "moving up" was worth it?
