confused sub
Situation: Varsity boys, A6 and B6 have reported and are waiting to enter the game. Foul, A1 to shoot 2. After first free throw, horn sounds, I beckon the subs. B6 enters, but A6 points at A1 and says, "I'm in for the shooter."
Second free throw is good. Horn sounds. I beckon again, A6 enters, but A2 leaves, not A1. I had never seen this happen before. Is there any action to be taken here?

Legal substitution.
I have a friend of mine that is a Varsity Girls coach, and one of his KEY tactics, especially for teams that like to push the pace, is to have a sub at the table at the second of every two shot free throw situation. If the shot goes, he slows down the game which allows his team time to get back on defense. If the shot misses, he puts the sub back on the bench. Through the years, I haven't seen someone use that tactic very often (maybe 2-3 teams total), but it works. |
