Elbow Violation

Had one of those scratching the needle across the record "what's he calling" moments last night. Had to call the elbow violation. Boys Varsity game. It pretty much went over like a lead balloon. Heck, I think I'd have been better off if that elbow would have made contact with the guys jaw!!!

I thought I'd never call it in a varsity game but there it was. Dude missed sending someone to the dentist by about a half inch.

"Tower, this is ghost rider requesting fly-by"

I had a boys varsity last night. A1 drives to basket, releases shot, comes down with elbow into B1's jaw. B1 had position and was stepping backwards to avoid contact. I hit my whistle...Player Control....No Basket. A's coach actually says it can't be player PC because B1 wasn't STATIONARY.

I guess if B1 had been knocked out, I should have penalized him for hurting A1's elbow???????????????????????

This is what? About the third year for this being a violation. And some fans and coaches still struggle with it. Invariably every time I've had to call it I will take a quick look over at the book keeper and they will be marking down a foul. So we stop and go over and explain that it was just a violation. And they look at you like your an idiot. It's always something to check on when you make this call.

NO doubt....I was lead - trail turned around immediately and said "violation" to the table plus I came out and signaled the violation and made sure they could hear me say violation.
