What wrong with helping each other out?
The key of good refereeing is communication. When I'm not sure of a the location of a certain toe or I'm not sure of a call for out of bounds a quick look at my partner can really help me out. And when he's in the same situation, I'll help him out IF HE WANTS ME TO! You know whether or not to assist, when you've got good eye contact with your partner.
And than still, I think the ref in charge of the call had to make it himself. This way, it doesn't show that he had some 'outside' help and you avoid getting into a discussion with the coach. A discussion which shouldn't have to be taking place in the first place. Let the coach worry about his own team's strategy instead of the ref's!
Good assistance, Mick!
