Punch at the Table? ... again
 

It's been interesting to note the differences in how different states and areas have been told to report the TCF. Last night at the rules meeting we were told to punch straight ahead of the body... not the direction of offending team and to punch in the preliminary signal and when reporting at the table. Any other rules interpreters telling you something different?

Ohio - they want us behind the head for ALL team control fouls....punch is an optional additional signal for the charge.

We (Texas) were told at our recent regional clinic (I asked the question) to do both the punch and the type of foul signal at the table for team control fouls. PC fouls are the PC signal only.

But I don't recall if we punch in a direction or toward the table. I still want further clarification of that and will try to get it this week at the state meeting. In my view, the punch should only be used at the spot of the foul to indicate team control, we aren't shooting.

We were told the same thing. Stop the clock, punch, and then point to the spot.

They gave the option of giving the type of foul if necessary.

They didn't cover what to do at the table.

In PA, we were told the following:

1:) Foul called (Armed raised with fist)
2:) Then lower arm and give the punch signal
3:) Then give prelim, hold, push, block ect
4:) Point to spot where ball will be taken out
5:) Report
6:) When reporting team, number then signal of actual foul push, block, hold

If anyone else from PA is doing it different let me know

We've been told to:

At spot, blow whistle raise fist into air and then give punch signal and point to OB spot to help partners. At bench give color/number followed by punch signal and then nature of foul signal and point to spot. This is according to our RI.

At the bench, I am planning on using the punch mechanic, but verbalizing "illegal screen" or whatever the actual call was for clarification.

But from reading all of the different responses given, it seems basically there is a LOT of confusion as to how this is supposed to be done.

Typical FED, we change things but don't go the extra mile to ensure conformity.

I agree, this is exactly how it should be done. There is no variation to it. The six steps you aforementioned is the intent of the Federation. The conformity is there we humans elect not to conform. It not that hard.:confused:

Which rules meeting did you go to? I went to Alton on the Tuesday that the Cardinals were playing. They were expecting 125 and about 60 of us showed up. I have never seen so much red clothing in one room in my life! Made a Cub fan shudder in fear!:eek:

Ha Ha. I was in Paris on Wednesday night. Had a very good meeting (minus the promo crap at the very beginning :( ). It was great to see some officials that I hadn't seen since last year (still haven't seen M&M). Spent a little time after the meeting just talking to them about the upcoming season. My schedule is still a little spotty in November and December. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a few more games.

I don't blame you, refnrev. Whenever I get down in that area, I try to squint so all that red doesn't hurt my eyes. :D

Yep, there's a lot of red. You know, all those St. Louis and Indiana fans!
