Does anyone know where I can get a good summary of 3-man mechanics, besides the NF manual. I am going to be doing some college intramural games, and they use the 3-man "OLD" system, where the lead and trail both stay table-side. Thanks for your help.

I don't understand your question. The "OLD" system, is the only system. THere is no way that there would ever be Lead and a Center on the same side.

What I mean is, if the lead was to go ball side, he would return to the table side on the next trip down the floor. From what I was told, this old system doesn't involve a rotation of the trail and center switcing spots during the play. The center is ALWAYS opposite the table and covers free throw line to free throw line. If this is still unclear, I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction to find some help on current 3 man mechanics.

Wink

Maybe the intramural director needs some guidance in switching to the normal 3-man system, whether college or HS. I'm not familiar with the "old" system, but there seems to be little benefit to doing things that way. For many new officials, intramurals is a nice way to get used to reffing in a relatively low-key way. It would be much more help to them in their development to learn the proper and currently used mechanics, rather than an "in-house" system. Perhaps someone from your local officials association would be willing to help with the transition by doing a clinic for the IM reffing staff. As to where to find material about the OLD system, I have no idea. Good luck!

This old system you are talking about doesn't exist. It is made up. If you are a High School Ref right now, then what the mechanics book tells you, is the way that we at the college level do the 3 man game. Does this help at all.
