Opening Night

I'm scheduled for an October 5th start.

When do you all open up your basketball season?

What is opening on October 5th?

I am sure I will have a game sometime in early to mid-November when the college season starts. As of right now, the week of Thanksgiving is my known start.

Peace

I really never consider the season to start until the HS and/or college season starts. All that other stuff is just practice and getting ready for the "real season." On October 5, 2006, that will be about Week 7 of the football season. None of my basketball meetings will be starting by that time.

Peace

I won't have attended any of my meetings yet either. But it's a game to gear up and get out there to get back into the swing.

I hear ya. I just do not consider the official start to the season until I am working on a regular basis. When I did work JH a lot before the "regular season" began, I did not work enough to consider that much of anything. I might work one week 1 game, and then go a couple of weeks before another game. I think it comes down to your personal perspective. I just worked a few basketball games just last week.

Peace

In Michigan, girls soccer is in the spring.

As a one-sport official, I like having the girls and boys seasons separated. I get to work a couple of times a week for six and one-half months rather than four times a week for three and one-half or four months. I know that there are a lot of other considerations -- and that officials' convenience is not high on the list -- but the more reasonable time demands sure are a lot more conducive to a happy and healthy family life. (Of course, there are a lot more significant factors to that as well...)
