I think that's a pretty standard policy. In NC, you get 4 years of HS eligibility. If you transfer in after playing in another, it's as if you played here.

He played for a Christian School - some are so small that they use 7th graders on their varsity. According to that they'd be done after 10th grade.

I was wondering that also. The story doesn't say if he played as a eighth-grader or if he was held back a year. If this is his senior year and he played in 2002-2003 he would have either been an eighth-grader or a freshman and then was held back at some time.

The funniest thing about this fiasco is his parents saying they thought he was in the 8th-grade when he entered his current school. They don't know what grade he was in? Yeah, right.

Speaking only for what I've observed with the MI HSAA, if you play HS ball as a 7th or 8th grader, the school has to receive permission for it on an annual basis, and your HS eligibility doesn't start until 9th grade.

There was a girl a few years back who set a scoring record, and it was footnoted with the comment that her 8th grade season (as a varsity HS player) was not included.
