No real good stories this year. I've been this camp a few times now, so much of the lecture material is review (always a good thing!). It was nice to see some of the NY/NJ guys again, since I only see them at camp. Dan wasn't there, but it was nice to see Bill again.

One of my favorite parts of the camp didn't even happen at camp. I carpooled with one of the observers one day, so I got to spend a good 2.5 hours with him one-on-one, picking his brain and hearing his stories about moving up. I enjoyed that a lot.

The final night, we were observed by Mr. Corbett and Mr. Higgins, which was pretty cool too.

Sorry I don't have anything juicier this year.

I'm finding that out at the camps I've been to this year - there isn't anything new and exciting, so all of the classroom sessions and teaching are kinda like summer re-runs. For me at least that isn't entirely bad, because I could focus on my game, both positioning and mechanics, without having to worry about new stuff. I would imagine for the newer guys it's still a unique experience.

As far as juicy stories - c'mon Chuck, you expect us to believe that? I mean, you didn't go to Vegas, right? What happens in Jersey gets broadcast throughout the country, right? There must be something you can tell us about? Pleeeeese?!

There really was nothing crazy to talk about. It was pretty straight-forward officiating, although the level of basketball wasn't great. Here's one story that I got razzed a little for. But I'm warning you, it's not that funny.

My very first game of the week, I worked with one college official and one second-year official who had never worked 3-whistle before. After the game, we're watching the tape together and 95% of the comments are for the new guy. After a basket, the scoring team puts on a really hard press, lots of pressure in the backcourt. So as the Center official, I held my position at the foul line extended to officiate the press.

The observer says to the new guy, "See Chuck's position here? Nobody could it any better than that." After the tape session, the other college official starts laying into me. "Any better than WHAT?!?! You just stood there! Great job of standing there!!"

So I got some ribbing for a while about "Let's see how Chuck stands around". I told you it wasn't that funny.

Ok, maybe it's not that funny, but I'm sure we'll (over)use it as we see fit.

Talking Fill in the blanks!

Hey Chuck...is Edgar still asking questions and waiting on the class to fill in the blanks? He allways tickled me with that. Plus, Teaneck NJ is a real ghost town, Chuck come over the George Washington Bridge into NYC and get your groove on!

Once you meet Edgar you never forget Edgar... for those of you that have never worked for or with Edgar, you want to get on his good side, take a step towards the basket on every shot in the C & T positions... especially foulshots.

Edgar will always expect you to fill in the blanks, so you better follow his conversations otherwise you'll be lost and he won't let you rejoin.

Chuck... did you attend the Hoop Mountain camp or the ECAC Camp at Plymouth State College in Plymouth NH?

I've attended quite a few camps around the NE area, just trying to figure out if I've ever met you before.
