Yo, M&M...

Great show on HBO tonight at 9:00pm, your time. Must-see television!!

It's called <i>"Wait 'Til Next Year"</i>. It's about this MLB team that hasn't won a World Series in 98 years. Guess what team that would be?:D

The quote that I kinda liked was <i>"The Chicago Cubs are <b>definitive</b> losers!"</i>

If it's in the NY Times, it's true, it's true......

You are heartless, man. On the day that the other Chicago team is eliminated from postseason contention, and the Red Sox drop to third in the division, you gotta bust on the Cubbies? That's just cruel.

I expected gravestones with two colors of sox on them this morning.

You could at least congratulate DJ (TJ?) on a nifty Seattle win in extra innings last night. They score 3 in the ninth to tie it and then win it in the 10th. Ichiro got 5 hits and scored the winning run, Ibanez and Sexson each had 4 hits, and some Putz got the win. Pretty fun game!

And just to feed JR a slice of humble pie, here's one of his contributions from last year's baseball thread. At the end of the season, Mick commented that the Tigers had a decent farm system and that '06 might be interesting for Detroit fans. JR's take?

Think they can get Bill Lajoie back from the BoSox? I don't care if he is 175 years old, he's gotta be better than the goober they got running things now.

Oooooo, missed it by that much! :D

3) Congratulations, Rocko. Your Mariners exceeded all expectations this year; they're only 14 1/2 games out of first place in their division. It's kinda...wierd...though when you can say that a team could really use a few more Putz's.

I meant to get Lajoie back as a manager, instead of as a general manager. They got Leyland instead.

And if you believe that,.......:D

Nope, can't bust on Mick this year....at all. The Tiggers deserve all the accolades that they are getting.

To quote the great space explorer, Hans Solo: "Go ahead, laugh it up, fuzzball."

I wonder how the Yankees' triple-A team would fare in the AL East? In the Cubs' case, I believe around 70 starts were made by rookie pitchers this season. So just wait 'till next year when they're no longer rookies!

Er,...never mind.

What's the *TC* patch on the Blue Jays' left sleeves?

Mick, I wondered the same thing until I took the ballpark tour of SkyDome this summer.

TC stands for Tom Cheek, who was a broadcaster for Blue Jays games since the inception of the club back in '77. He broadcast 4,306 games for the club until he needed surgery for a brain tumor in 2004. He died last year. His name (along with the number 4306) is in the "ring of honor" with other Blue Jay greats in the outfield of Toronto's SkyDome.

A better tribute can be found here: http://www.americansportscastersonli...kmemoriam.html

Tom was well regarded here in Vermont on WDEV before he went to do the Blue Jays games.

Just some interesting tidbits:

Last night, as I was watching the Cubs game (yes, I'm still watching...sigh...), they mentioned that according to Chuck's Sports Bureau, the Cubs have now set the major league record for the most number of pitching changes in a season. (I was thinking it was 422, but I was too numb to be listening closely.) So I guess we can't complain that Dusty's doing nothing?

The next has to do with the Cardinals and their (maybe historic) collapse. If they finish out the season Sunday night within a half game of Houston, they would have to play a rainout makeup game with the Giants on Monday night. The Giants, meanwhile, plan on finishing their season on Sunday night, and I'm sure most of them have their flights booked for the Bahamas, Florida, Bakersfield, or wherever they go in the off-season. Now they might instead have to fly to St. Louis for the makeup game. Wonder how many of the starters will go? Then, from the Cardinals' perspective, if they end up after that game tied with Houston, they would have to fly to Houston for the play-in game, and, if they won that, then fly to either N.Y. or San Diego to start the playoffs on Wed. night. So they have the possiblility of playing 3 games in 3 cities in 3 days.

What's football got to compare to that?

What? There's baseball scheduled in October?

Anyway, I might even have to wear a Blue Jay's hat this weekend... ;)

SportsCenter Alert!

The Dodgers played a wild one with the Rockies today in Colorado. The final score was 19-11. Each team had a seven run inning and 1B Jamey Loney of the Dodgers had 2 HRs and NINE RBI!

Yep, he drove someone in nine times! Bueller, Bueller, ...
