My buddy told me that he has a little tuperware dish that he carries in his gym bag to put his whistles in.

Thanks to all. Great information.

I was in a hurry after my last game. While changing, I accidentally put my dirty socks in the pouch that I keep my whistles. I don't really want to put it back in my mouth. Should I just buy a couple more, or is there a good way to clean them?

If you were to stick your dirty socks in your mouth for a minute you'd never notice if the whistle was dirty or not! But, as for buying more, can you never really have too many whistles? I have 4 or 5 classics, 2 cmgs, 2 mini cmgs, and one 1 acme tornado.

No you can't boil them, they will crack.

Soak them in mouthwash.

Tried this a few weeks ago and that is what happened.

Why couldn't you have posted this BEFORE I attempted this?

I keep mine in a small plastic dish. Before each game I take a small alcohol prep gause, the ones they use to clean a cut before you put a band-aid on, and clean my whistle.

Exclamation You've got to be kidding!

If I were to clean my whistle, and I never have, I wouldn't use more than running water.

Sheesh, they are your germs, they are already in your mouth. You have antibacterial qualities to your spit.

You guys have really bought into the antibacterial hysteria.

The best way to clean a whistle is to simply leave it in a glass of Coke for 15 minutes. You have to use Coke Classic, not that watery diet coke crap that snussies drink. You also have to be careful to remove your whistle right around the 15-minute mark; after that, they will start to dissolve.

By the 15-minute mark, all of the accumulated gook inside your whistles will have been washed out and will be floating on the surface of your coke. You simply remove your whistle and lightly pat it dry with a cotton wash cloth. Then you pick the hunks of gook out of the coke and eat 'em like trail mix, followed by washing your snack down with rest of the coke.

Larry the Cable guy recommended that procedure in his book on officiating. "Git-R-Done".

It's true; it's true........
