I've worn hard contacts (roughly 12 years) and soft lenses now for almost 15, and I've never, ever had a lens pop out when I was active. I've swam, water-skied, jet-skied, snow-skied, played football, baseball, basketball, etc. in them.
However, I do keep an extra pair in my bag and in my car. I'm terribly nearsighted, but if I was forced to work a game with one eye out, I could. I'd have to close the eye to get a number, but I could do it.
