Has anyone seen a study about what percentage of calls should come from which position (3 person)? I know that this will differ from game to game based on what type of defense and offense are being run. On average where should most of the calls come from. I'm assuming that the majority should come from Lead & Trail because they are strong side.

The NBA & NCAA have probably done studies but might not have made them public.

How about the optimal amount of feet that the calling official should be from the foul in order to get the highest percentage chance of getting the call right.

I'd be interested in hearing some percentages too, all officials have to work very hard so it wouldn't suprise me if its pretty even.

As for optimal amount of feet, there is no set distance. Your angle, distance may very depending how how the play goes, other players, your height ect ect.

If I recall from a talk Ed Rush gave a few years ago, all NBA officials must be over 93% (*i think*) correct in all their calls. And the call most often got wrong was out of bounds, with the officials getting it correct only 87% (once again *i think*) of the time. But this was information from 3 years ago and I'm not positive my memory is exactly right. But to answer your question, I know the NBA has looked at it in the past and I'm pretty sure they do every year. No idea how to get the information though.

I am sure it would vary from each level. NBA and both NCAA mechanics are not the same. I would think that in Men's basketball the C official would call more fouls because there are not as many rotations and completely different coverage areas. The Lead in the NBA and Women's coverage area is much bigger. I would expect some things to be very different based on which mechanics you are using.

Peace

One thing from camp

Some evaluators at camp say that the lead should have the fewest. Since most action starts from outside his primary. They say that the C should be the most active but not necessary the most fouls.
