A1 has possession of the ball in the front court and makes an errant pass to A2, who is by the division line, the ball flys over A2 head and while in the air in the backcourt Team A Coach yells Timeout. Is this granted or not??
Same play except the thrown ball has touched the floor in the backcourt. Coach A calls Timeout. Granted or not?? |

The timeout in this case cannot be granted.
A team must have both team control and player control in order to be granted a time-out. The player requesting the time-out does not need to have control, but one of his teammates does. |

quote: It's actually "in control or *at the disposal of* a player of his/her team." I mention this because one coach argued I couldn't grant a TO to the other team when they (the other team) was shooting a free-throw since there was no player control. |
