Heard of this last night:

Team B with the ball between top of the key and midcourt, end of the game, less than 1:00. Team B coach requests timeout. Team B coach asks U2 where ball placement, U2 incorrectly states baseline(under B's basket). After timeout, Team A coach questions, and they end up giving it to B under the basket....what would you do? Since the official gave incorrect info, do you give it where the official stated?....is there a provision to grant an 'official's timeout' to replace the one that B wasted with incorrect info?

thanks

Well, I am admitting my verbal mistake and putting the ball in play where it should be.

Even in this situation...when the coach has set-up a play according to where the spot is??

You are probably going to get chewed on, however communication is extrememly important.

Whenever there's a timeout, I'm always on the same page with my partners. Where's the ball going to be put in play (if it's three man, you should know because one official will be standing there), is it a spot or can the player run (if on the baseline).

If it's three man and the official with the ball goes to the baseline. Someone should have said something, I would think.

Bottom line, officials made a mistake and the ball should be put back in play at the proper spot.
