Shall = Required.

One old example that comes to mind...Thou shall not kill. Does that give the would be killer a little wiggle room in some cases or does it meant don't kill at all. Hmm.

Having had a heart attack a few years ago, I am suspicious of arterial motives!

I believe it actually says thou shall not murder.

Quite a difference between kill & murder.

But probably not much difference to the deceased.

I certainly didn't want to get into a religious discussion (but if I did, I'd bring in race and politics as well to have a rollickin' good time!). But, I believe the commandment says "Thou shalt not kill." And our laws basically say the same, except in extremely limited situations.

Which then brings me back to the original question: are there times when you would ignore a timeout request when you know it's excessive and would result in a T? Or is granted every time? Maybe in the original sitch, with the game still undecided, it needed to be called. But what if the game was decided (15 point game, 10 seconds left)?

Thou shall grant a requested time out.

Seems clear to me.

I think that's somewhere in the Bible too. I try to leave those kinda things up to the theologians though.
