Here we go.....question of the day...

Have you ever worked your high school alma mater?

There is a logic I hear for regular season that says: As long as I am not employed there or have kids there, it's ok.

Thoughts?

Yes. I graduated in 1978, have no particular ties to the school, and they were the visiting team for a game up here.

Our association policy does NOT consider your alma mater as a closed out site. We review
Do you work there?
Do you work in the school district?
Do you have Direct family memebers attending there?

I have in the past and I will in the future. I graduated over 15 years from the school. I do not know any more people at my former HS than I do with other schools. I also have not been a booster or in any way supported financially the sports programs. I see nothing wrong with working your former HS or even college. People just know I went there as well as the many other people know other officials attended those schools.

Peace

Yep - I have 4 games scheduled there the first half of this season. I don't think it's an issue, since I graduated 36 years ago.....(class of 69 - what a year!).

I still have some ties, I figured I just scratch it and not worry about it. There are plenty of other schools in the area that I can work. No big deal.

I ref games at my old high school every season. I graduated 25 years ago. I do have kids that currently attend the school but none of them play basketball. Nobody has a problem with it.

Yes, I have. About 10 - 12 years after I graduated. Girls Varsity game, the coach had been my JV coach when I attended school.

I was still a fairly new official at that time and, looking back, I was so concerned about wanting to call a good game that I went the other way and was not happy with my performance.

Now, I have no ties to my alma mater...coaches and most teachers are no longer there. If I draw one of their games, I just go work it like any other.

Yes, I work at my alma mater 2 or 3 times per season. I graduated from there in 1981 and have no ties to the school (other than that I still hold one obscure bball record there).

I've worked at mine about 4 times and I only graduated in 2001. Never worked a boys game since up until last year I would have still played with some of the players, but I have worked girls and will work one come in January. I won't work boys now for 3 more years either because my brother starts as a sophomore for the boys team.

My alma mater is closed, so it's not a problem.

I have worked my alma mater (Boys team ) 1 time and my old high school coach is still coaching there. ( He also happens to be my dad).

They were playing a team that my lil brother is the head coach of.

I have worked the girls team a few times over the past few years

I get JV games and below, however I highly doubt I will ever get a varsity boys game, unless it's a very last minute thing or problem. I've done a girls game though. However, I know that in my area they usually like to hire officials from out of the area to come in and work the boy's games, which is fine by me.

That probably makes for some interesting Family Gathering conversations. Are you the black-sheep of the family who not only didn't go into coaching but went all the way to the otherside to officiate?

Just imagine what the comments could be like: "Oh come on Ref, remember that time I pushed you into the door......well, I meant it!"
