Is there a simple rule to follow about when to set the arrow on a throw-in? Sometimes it's when giving the ball to the thrower and sometimes it's after the the throw in.

Also, same question for FT's ; sometimes it's when you hand the ball for the first free throw and sometimes not. Thanks.

If you're shooting FTs b/c of a common foul before the arrow has been set (this would only happen during the jump ball for an overtime period), then you set the arrow when the ball is at the disposal of the free thrower.

If you're shooting FTs b/c of a T or an intentional foul, then you set the arrow when the ball is at the disposal of the inbounder after the FTs.
