SITUATION 10: B1 and B2 are defending near the end line. A3 intentionally goes out of bounds outside the end line to avoid being detained by B1 and B2. Just as A3 goes out of bounds, A4’s try is in flight . . .

Penalize the violation if the shot misses but ignore it if it goes in?

By rule, you penalize the violation and the ball becomes dead immediately. No basket, even if it goes.

This is the same as the interpretation we got for swinging the elbows when that first became a violation.

Correct. 6-7-9 Exception d. "A violation, as in 9-3-2 or 9-13-1, occurs by an opponent."

As Chuck said 9-3-2 and 9-13-1 are the leaving the court violation and the excessive swinging of elbows.

So, if the violation is by an opponent, the try is allowed to finish, but if a teammate commits the violation, the ball is dead immediately.
