The referee was in the backcourt, so the ball was in the backcourt.
Apply the "player location" definition (4-??) to all persons (iirc, the first part of the definition uses some wording to refer to all, while the subsequent parts only refer to "player" -- I think the subsequent parts should also apply to all)
