what happens if a team doesn't have a coach on the bench?

does that team forfeit? or can the team captain act as coach?

Question

In order to answer your question, we'd have to have more specific information, such as:

1. What program - HS, college or rec
2. What state
3. etc.

If it's summer, let it go.

If it's during the season, end the game. Let others (copnference, state, etc.) rule on whether it's a forfeit.

should have said...

during the season. in the summer i wouldn't worry about it. but, the original question was for during the season. so, we should end the game then. what if the team who was in the lead lost it's coaching staff. is it forfeited to the other team?

What Bob J. said.

Not your decision,John. Don't forfeit. Just write "game "suspended" on the scoresheet, give the circumstances and put down how much time was left in the game. Whovever has the responsibility for that league then should make a decision. Go have a brownpop and don't worry about it.

Exclamation

If it's summer league and all the players are under 21, make sure there is an adult on the bench for the game. That person has to take responsibility for what happens if someone gets hurt. They, not you, should make any decisions in that area.

Please note this is not legal advice, but a rule we enforce in all the rec leagues around here. Ask game management what you should do in your case.

Question

"Dare To Fail!" ~ Col. Norman Vaughan

Failure Only Happens When We Stop Trying!!!

JohnBark: Now that you've received the advice you were after, I have to ask: if the two quotes from your signature line are to be adhered to, the result would be "Dare to Stop Trying"?

LOL. Actually, that sounds like advice that Homer Simpson would give.

I don't know the "right" answer for your rules but in FIBA the cpt is allowed to be a "playing coach" and he can also be replaced by another "playing coach" and so on

(from the company softball team episode - after home loses his RF position to Darryl Strawberry)

HOMER: He's better than me, faster than me, and he already has more friends around the plant than I do.

BART: You're pathetic, Homer....you always tell me I can do whatever I want if I just put my mind to it.

HOMER: Yeah, well now that you're older, I can tell you THAT'S A CROCK....no matter how good you are at something, there's always about a MILLION people better than you.

BART: Got it. Can't win - don't try.

How timely, I just had this come up a couple of weeks ago. A coach decided to get himself dismissed from a weekend tournament game (after the first T, he proceeded to tell my partner and I we were "friggin terrible and were friggin terrible the 3 times he had us). This was a early high school team (freshman or sophmores) so with no coach on the bench, I told them the game was over. Luckily someone's dad came and sat on the bench (quietly, thankfully) to finish the game. Had no one come forward, I would have talked to the site supervisor and probably called the game rather than play with no coach. First coach I've ever had to run and hopefully the last. As they say "when in Rome" (Can I use this here, even though it's an Anchorman reference?).
