I'd loooooove to see an NBA ref come out with a double foul in this situation. Nobody in the gym would be happy, including his partners.

This pictures sums up every play in the NBA, you have to penalize the worse of two evils. Sure, Wade palmed the ball and travelled to get there, but then he was mugged on the shot. "2 shots!"

1. Yes, B1 made contact before A1 retured to the floor.

2. Probably not. I kind of think B1 did not gain advantage from the contact because
a. the block was clean until the ball was knocked away. (in the imaginary play)
b. the ball went OOB so A1 was not in a disadvantageous position for the ensuing plays.

Do you think my second answer make sense at all? Thanks.

I believe if the imaginary play happens in a real game, I probably would call it a foul too. (as an imaginary ref)

I just want to understand the principle and need some help here.

a. if a defense player is out of position and hit offense player hard on the follow through (only), does it really matter the whether defense gain advantage or not?
(or in other word, is it fair to let him get away with it after hit the offense hard.)

b. if the defense has to gain at least some advantage to justify the foul call on this type of play, do you consider the defense does gain some advantage (other than 1 less personal fouls)?

Thanks.
