free throw lane - The Official Forum

I have been watching with amazement(NCAA Tourney) all the players lining up for a free throw and standing on or into the next player's box on free throws. Is this not a lane violation? If not , why do they paint the boxes on the lane? Just stand where you want. Please clear this officials mind.Is Fed different?
