Alternating possession question.

I am aware that the possession arrow does not change until the free throw ends. So, if after a held ball with team A awarded the ball due to the arrow, team A is assessed a 5 second violation, The arrow would stay pointing towards A. Now if the same situation occurs except A passes the ball from, let's say the baseline, directly out of bounds on the sideline. This is a violation for not passing directly to the playing surface? Does the arrow stay with A in this situation? I left my book at home and I new I could depend on your help.
