So, if after a held ball with team A awarded the ball due to the arrow, team A is assessed a 5 second violation, The arrow would stay pointing towards A. Now if the same situation occurs except A passes the ball from, let's say the baseline, directly out of bounds on the sideline. This is a violation for not passing directly to the playing surface? Does the arrow stay with A in this situation? I left my book at home and I new I could depend on your help.

Wrong. The arrow changes when the throw-in (I assume that's what you meant by "free throw"

) ends *or* Team A violates.
So, in both the 5-second call and the "throwing the ball out of bounds" call, the arrow changes to B -- and they, of course, get the ball on the violation.
