BTW, in the UT game this year, Hess called a foul on Chuck in the first 6 seconds of the game on a lay up, and then his second in the next 4 minutes...a fan wonders about these trends...

were they the correct call??? remember now fouls are fouls, a carry is a carry..blah blah blah.

A fellow official has boiled down a popular coach and fans quote to what it really means....We all hear "hey let em play" .... What is meant is "hey let em play....when WE are on defense"...

for conversation purposes, what about the intentional foul called at near the end of the KU/Bucknell game? He reached, and barely nipped jersey, and was called for an intentional...by definition, it was perhaps the correct call, but, what about all the other games when it isn't such an important moment when this call is not made?

That call has been discussed on this board, and on the board, and when a group of us were watching it on TV, it was the absolute correct call....one in the business we call a B*lls call or at least some of us do ;)

You can not be serious.

If you are a fan then you can not tell me that you would want ot sit and watch a game that has 100 fouls called in it. Just because there is contact does not mean that there is a foul. Just because there is a foul does not mean that the offending team or offended team has been put at any advantage or disadvantage over the other player.

Because you say that you want every foul called just lets everyone here know what a true fanboy you really are.

Take a hike and even though I am an SEC fan as well as a 8yr official, I still hope UK gets slaughtered just for you.

Tubby -

If by UT, you mean Tennessee, Hess didn't work any of those games this year. I think you may be getting your officials wrong.

1/25/05 - Knoxville - Ted Valentine, Joe Lindsay, Tim Clougherty (Score UK 84, UT 62 - Total Fouls UK 10, UT 20)

3/2/05 - Lexington - Gerald Boudreaux, Tony Greene, Mike Stuart (Score UK 73, UT 61 - Total Fouls UK 14, UT 18)

3/11/05 - SEC Tournament - Tom Lopes, Bruce Benedict, Doug Sirmons (Score UK 76, UT 62 - Total Fouls UK 14, UT 19)

And, by looking at the scores and foul totals, your credibility continues to take a hit.

Care to continue debating "Mr. Love of the Game and Love of Fairness?"

BktBallRef Wed Mar 23, 2005 04:07pm

And a fan is a fan. And fan is short for fanatic. :(

Regarding the intentional foul in the Kasnsas-Bucknell game, let me offer the rule to you. "It may or may not be premeditated and is not based on the severity of the act. It makes no difference how severe the contact was or wasn't. The defender met the rule requirement for the intetnional foul to be called. And we all know full well that he was trying to foul to prevent the KU player from scoring. We also know that you wouldn't have brought it up if this had been a foul called in UK's favorite.

In the NCAA Tournament, you have seen more intentional fouls, more technical fouls, and more player control fouls (that's "charging" in fan terms). Why? Because the NCAA wants the tournament officiated a certain way. If you're an official in the Big East, then you officiate the games the way the Big East wants them officiated. But if you're an official in the tourney and want to continue working deeper and deeper, you do what Hank Nichols says to do.

Here endeth the lesson.

1) You're forgiven for being low and unworthy. You're not forgiven for being a whinya$$ l'il fanboy.

2) Yup, you're doing exactly what fans do, and that's why fans like you are such contemptible little pissants. No wonder we have trouble keeping officials.

3) The one thing that you most certainly do not have is a sense of fairness. All you are interested in is seeing Kentucky win, and you could care less what happens while they're trying to do that. That's why you question the integrity of an official without knowing the first damn thing about officiating or the rules- except for what what you pick up from knownothing tv announcers or your fellow clueless fanboys. If you think that the officials are so bad, why don't you get your fat a$$ out of the stands and show us how easy it really is.

Isn't it time to send this moron on his way? He ain't ever gonna figure out that we kinda don't take to goobers that call us cheaters.

I'll call my buddy Tim and ask him if he'll do his Karl Hess imitation for us! :D

it would be a shame to the game we all love so much

i actually disagree, a ticket should be issued on every occassion there is a violation so there would be no instance that any questions about the rules could enter the situation

Where's my shotgun? This barrel is full of fish :O

Have fun guys!

Reminds me of a time at the SEC tourney several years ago when a guy on the first row behind me yelled, "Hey Rutledge, you suck!" I turned to him and said "Umm, Don Rutledge isn't working this game." Fanboy replies, "Well, it doesn't matter. They all suck!" I laughed, shrugged my shoulders and turned away.

Maybe it was Tubby Rules...

Mmm...this popcorn's good.

Can someone pass the salt?

Guys, Guys, Guys (and a few Gals!)...

What are we doing? I have asked Tubby to provide his credentials for evaluating officiating way back on the first page. He has yet to provide these which leads me to believe he is not actually qualifed to evaluate an officials performance. (Comments dripping with sarcasm)

Until he provides such information, ignore him. That is the best solution. Unless he asks a legitimate question regarding rules and philosophy and the question has a tone of sincerety without an agenda (read: want to learn and better educate himself.)

Now, if he does provide his credentials and they are noteworthy, well then I guess we will have to reevaluate his observations. I am not holding my breath on either account. :D

Note specifically to Tubby:

Any other BS posts that don't meet the criteria as outlined in paragraph two will be summarily deleted by me (provided I see them).

Whewww!

As a complete outsider (as most of you know I am not a basketball official or a Kentucky fan - well you might not know that) I believe the score of this thread currently is:

Trained Officials 40
Whiners (oops, Tubby) 0

I believe the ony way this thread could turn around is if TubbyRules winds up being Ashley Judd.

Redhouse Wed Mar 23, 2005 05:22pm

Who cares

It doesn't really matter to us that there are more whinney fanboys out there like you.

Since there is already a discussion going on for another board, obviously a fan board, why don't you go join that conversation. They may feel a little more sorry for you than any of the people here do.

Adios

No body said you were. You're also not the only one who doesn't have a clue about officiating. There are millions and millions. If you want to know more about officiating, then this is the place. If you want to know more about Kentucky, and why they're always right, go elsewhere.

hey hey hey, lets not summarily kick him to the curb...Tubby is like that little squishball some of us have on our desks....he really doesn't serve a purpose other than stress relief now and then...you know he just sits there until you want to pull him out and squish him some more....:D

I agree. In fact, my last squish ball sprang a leak, so I've been looking for a new one. Tubby squishes pretty good. :D
