and my personal favorite (it's my alma mater) the Effingham Flaming Hearts. It comes from the fact that at one time way way back in the day the population center of the US was located a few miles West (or maybe East - I don't remember) of town.
What do Flaming Hearts have to do with being the population center? I don't get the connection. Of course, I don't get a lot of things. Please clarify. Thanks.
