During my son's game today, a foul was called on the opposing team right before half. Before putting the ball in play, the scorekeeper informed the officials it was the 7th (actually 8th) team foul. Neither official could recall the player fouled, so they gave us the ball at the point of infraction. I was not thrilled ( I coach as well as officiate), but was not sure of the proper procedure, so I was left to ask only that they ask the scorekeeper to determine if he knew the player fouled (which they didn't do). Under the circumstances, did they do the right thing? My gut feeling is they didn't - at a minimum, they should have made a better effort to determine who was fouled. In fact, when asked the referree actually looked at me like I was crazy expecting him to know who the shooter should be in the confusion. Isn't that his job??

FYI - I was never accusatory - I simply asked him to try to ID the shooter. there was only 2 seconds left in the half and my best shooter would have been at the line, so it obviously pernalized us.

thanks
