Getting a drink during free throws

This happened last night at a V-Boys game. Team A is free throws. B1 walks over to talk to the coach and asks for a drink. The coach hands him a Gatorade bottle. The L who was administering the free throws hit B1 with a T. The expiation given to the coach was that there was a new rule this year that you can't have drinks on the floor. I haven’t heard of this one. I know if he had stepped of the floor you could get him for that. I can't find it in the rule book. Has anyone else heard of this rule?

No. This sounds like maybe it's an extreme misinterpretation of the emphasis on keeping players in their bench area (RE: a player leaves the bench area to go to the end of the gym to get a drink from the fountain).
